Exciting Day at Thermokon: Preschoolers from KiTa Wichernzwerge Bischoffen Explore the World of Sensor Technology
With great enthusiasm and curiosity, the children explored the facility together with their teachers. To make the complex processes more accessible, Training Manager Tobias Hufer and Industrial Trainer Paula Pfeifer designed a special activity: a scavenger hunt through different production stations.
The tour started with an introduction to ESD protection and quality control. Equipped with ESD protection bands on their shoes, the children excitedly examined their own fingerprints under a microscope – and received their first component. Next, they visited the incoming goods department, where they marveled at a forklift and the in-house transport system. Here, they also discovered the second component, which was retrieved with the help of the forklift.
The third stop led them to the SMD/THT production line, where they observed modern machines assembling components fully automatically and at high speed – a fascinating insight into the technology behind our sensors. At the end of the assembly line, the third component was waiting for the young explorers. Finally, the last station took them to the manual soldering department, where they received the fourth and final component while watching employees soldering up close.
Back in the canteen, it was time to get creative: Using the collected components, the children worked together with their supervisors to assemble a small circuit – consisting of a power supply, a switch, a light sensor, and a light source. Once everything was connected correctly, the light turned on – and with it, the children's eyes lit up with excitement.
This special day provided the preschoolers with a first, playful insight into the exciting world of sensor technology and electronics. We are delighted that we could offer them not only new experiences but also an unforgettable day full of discovery and wonder.
As a parting gift, each child received a mini football along with their circuit to take home
